Professional internship
The educational path aims to integrate the contents of the traditional study programme in Medicine and Surgery with engineering knowledge and skills, without neglecting the in-depth study of the human sciences essential for establishing an effective doctor-patient relationship from the first year of the programme.
The professional internship activities, started from the second year of the programme, will allow students to come into contact with the hospital environment at an early age, contributing to the development of their problem-solving skills and providing them with direct practical training in the field.
The lectures in Medicine and Surgery are held at the Rome campus of Università Cattolica and the internships at the Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli IRCCS. The technological contributions and the acquisition of the 30 ECTS necessary to obtain the undergraduate programme in Biomedical Engineering will be provided by the Department of Industrial, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering (DIIEM) of Roma Tre University.

Newsweek's World's Best Hospitals 2024
In February 2024, Newsweek magazine , in collaboration with Statista R., once again designated Policlinico Gemelli as the "best hospital in Italy". For the fourth consecutive year, the hospital is thus at the top of excellence in Italy, also consolidating its position of absolute importance in the international ranking, placing itself in 35th place overall (last year it was 38th in the ranking of the best hospitals in the world) in the world top 250. It is the only Italian hospital among the top 50 in the world.
Joint Commission International (JCI)
In July 2021, the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS obtained the prestigious accreditation of the Joint Commission International (JCI), a world leader in healthcare accreditation. Out of more than 300 international standards and 1,200 indicators of excellence, subjected to the scrutiny of a rigorous commission of evaluators, only 17 indicators were 'not completely satisfied'. A full success, therefore, also underlined by the words of the international verifiers who affirmed that "we have known an extraordinary hospital of which the collaborators who work within it, the city of Rome and the whole of our country should be proud.
Italy's Best Employer
The Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS was ranked first in the "health and social" category of the Italy's Best Employers 2023 ranking (and occupies the 45th position in the total https://www.statista.com/page/italys-best-employers-2023), the report card of the top companies to work for.
180 Departments of Excellence (2023 – 2027)
For the five-year period 2023-2027, the Department of Industrial, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering (DIIEM) has been selected by the Ministry of University and Research from among the 180 Departments of Excellence of the Italian university system.These are Departments that stand out for the high standards of the research produced and for the quality of the development project, to which a total annual budget of 271 million euros is allocated.
