Specialising Master Programme: student with a foreign degree

Submission to a Specialising Master Programme for students with a foreign degree

No. In Italy, the Master's degree does not correspond to the University Master. Find out here the difference between "Master universitario" (1-year Specialising Master Programme ) and "Laurea Magistrale" (2-year Graduate Degree Programme). For Master's degree programmes, go to the dedicated Cattolica International page.

No. If you wish to enrol in a Specialising Master Programme in English, go to the dedicated page of the Cattolica International website. Once you have identified the Master you are interested in, go to the APPLY NOW section of the course and submit your application through the "international" portal. For more information, please contact: international.inquiry@unicatt.it.

Yes. Once you have identified the Specialising Master Programme you are interested in, go to the ADMISSION section of the course and submit your application for admission via the "domestic" portal. For more information, please contact: master.universitari@unicatt.it.

In the FAQ on this page you will find many answers to your questions, but for more information, the contact of the Specialising Master Programme's Office is: master.universitari@unicatt.it.

For the Masters concerning the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the Rome campus, it is possible to access the enrolment procedure through the following link: Enrolment portal for the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery.

You can participate in more than one call at the same time. You must enter the ADMISSION section of the Specialising Master Programme you are interested in and fill in the application form by the deadline of the call. The application form must be completed exclusively online by accessing the page: https://iscrizioni.unicatt.it/iscrizioni/.

In addition to the documents required by the call for applications, candidates with a foreign qualification must upload additional mandatory documents relating to their qualification in the section called "DICHIARAZIONE DI VALORE/DECLARATION OF VALUE OR DIPLOMA SUPPLEMENT". If you do not yet have these documents, go to the question: What are CIMEA Declaration of Value/Diploma Supplement/Endorsement/Statement of Comparability?

For the Masters concerning the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the Rome campus, it is possible to access the enrolment procedure through the following link: Enrolment portal for the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery.

A foreign degree diploma (i.e. parchment) alone is not sufficient for enrolment. In fact, in order to enrol in the Specialising Master Programmes, it will be mandatory to present your Degree Diploma with legalized translation into Italian and one of these documents in the original paper version:

  • The Declaration of Value (DV) of the qualification, if obtained in a non-EU country. It is a document that certifies the value of a qualification obtained in an education system other than the Italian one. The DV is written in Italian and issued by the Italian Diplomatic Representations abroad (Embassies/Consulates) "competent by area", i.e. the closest to the city where the institution that issued your foreign qualification is located. If the country in which the title was issued has signed the Hague Convention (5 October 1961), the so-called "Hague Apostille" must be affixed to the title before applying for the Declaration of Value.
  • The Diploma Supplement (DS) of the degree, if obtained in an EU country. It is an official document supplementing the qualification obtained at the end of a course of study at a university or higher education institution. The DS is written in English directly by the university of origin and provides a description of the nature, level, context, content and status of the studies carried out and completed by the student according to a standard model developed in 8 points on the initiative of the European Commission, the Council of Europe and UNESCO. Ask for it at your home university.
    PLEASE NOTE: as an alternative to the original paper version, we can accept the digital version as long as it is sent by e-mail directly from the university of origin to the address: master.universitari@unicatt.it.
  • The endorsement and legalization of the parchment of the degree, if conferred by a faculty approved by the Holy See (pontifical academic titles, see Presidential Decree of 2 February 1994, no. 175). The title must be endorsed (i.e., "authenticated") by the competent ecclesiastical authorities. For more information on the validation procedure and the related steps, please consult this website.

If you do not yet have one of these documents in your application, go to the question: I have obtained my international qualification and I have received the Diploma, but I have not yet obtained the CIMEA Declaration of Value/Diploma Supplement/Endorsement/Certificate of Comparability: can I participate in the selection of a Specialising Master Programme?

If you are graduating and you will obtain your degree later than the start of the Specialising Master Programme (but in any case no later than the last extraordinary session of the academic year preceding the one in which the Specialising Master Programme is activated), the Declaration of Value may take too long to issue. In this case, the Specialising Master Programme's Office will be able to evaluate, depending on the university of origin, whether to accept an alternative document to the DV, called the CIMEA Statement of Comparability. Request more information at: master.universitari@unicatt.it.
If so, you can request the CIMEA Statement of Comparability by registering on the following website: https://cimea.diplo-me.eu/unicatt/#/auth/login.

We remind you that the Foreign Degree Diploma (intended as a parchment) alone is not sufficient for enrolment. For more information on the mandatory document supplementing the Diploma, go to the question: What are CIMEA Declaration of Value/Diploma Supplement/Endorsement/Statement of Comparability?

Considering that many universities do not foresee immediate deadlines for the release of the parchment, you can participate in the selections by uploading at least one Certificate of Achievement and a Transcript of records, in a single PDF document, in the dedicated field of the admission portal called "DICHIARAZIONE DI VALORE/DECLARATION OF VALUE OR DIPLOMA SUPPLEMENT". Inquire with your university to receive these two documents, while waiting to receive the Diploma (parchment).

In addition to the documents required by the call for selection (see the ADMISSION section of the relevant Master), candidates with a foreign qualification who are not yet in possession of the mandatory document for possible enrolment must upload the original (or translated) Diploma and a copy of the original (or translated) Transcript of records in a single PDF in the dedicated field of the admission portal called "DICHIARAZIONE DI VALORE/DECLARATION OF VALUE OR DIPLOMA SUPPLEMENT".

In case of admission to the Specialising Master Programme, you will receive the relevant communication both by accessing the admission portal (https://iscrizioni.unicatt.it/iscrizioni/), and by e-mail (we invite you to check in the SPAM). The admission e-mail will invite you to "pre-enrolment" in the first instance, as the Specialising Master Programme's Office will have to receive the paper original of your DV or DS and check its content before enrolling. The payment of the first instalment must be made within 5 days of receipt of the admission notice.

For the Masters concerning the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the Rome campus, it is possible to access the enrolment procedure through the following link: Enrolment portal for the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery.

To secure the place in the classroom, the payment of the first instalment must be made within 5 days of receipt of the admission e-mail. Candidates must then proceed, through the admission portal, to pay the first instalment and upload the following documents:

  • Signed pre-enrolment or enrolment application (downloadable from the admission portal);
  • Copy of Visa (only for non-EU candidates);
  • Copy of the Residence Permit or application receipt (only for non-EU candidates);
  • Scan of the original Degree Diploma with legalized translation into Italian in a single PDF;
  • Scan of the DV or DS* or, if not already in possession, of the signed copy of the commitment to bring this document (downloadable from the admission portal under the name of DV_Substitute);
  • Copy of the Fiscal Registry Form (MAF), which can be downloaded from the admission portal (only in the case of total or partial scholarship assignment).

In case of admission without DV/DS* or in case of admission as an undergraduate, and in any case without the receipt of the Residence Permit, you will remain pre-enrolled until you present these documents. Go to the question What does pre-enrolment for a Specialising Master Programme involve?

*We remind you that the Degree Diploma (intended as parchment) alone is not sufficient for enrolment. Go to the question What are CIMEA Declaration of Value/Diploma Supplement/Endorsement/Statement of Comparability?

With the pre-enrolled status you will be able to follow the lessons and take the exams, but it will not be possible to: record your grades in your career; activate a curricular internship (if it is provided for in the Study Plan); download self-certifications; obtain any type of certificate (of enrolment or achievement) or the final Specialising Master Programme.

As soon as the Specialising Master Programme's Office receives the DV/DS* in the original paper version and after final evaluation of the document, your status will change from pre-enrolled to enrollable. In this way, the Master's Office will generate the enrolment application: to download it, go back to the home page of the admission portal, click on your application number and click on the PDF of the enrolment application.

To complete your application, you will need to proceed:

  •  When uploading the signed enrolment application form to the admission portal;
  •  If not already entered in the admission portal, when uploading the copy of the Residence Permit or the application receipt (only for non-EU candidates).

After receiving the notification of admission, contact the Master's Office at  master.universitari@unicatt.it to request the Invitation Letter and find out how to pre-enrol on the new Universitaly ministerial portal.

Contact the Italian Embassy to apply for a visa and remember to take out health insurance before leaving, inquiring in your country of origin.

You will have to apply for the Residence Permit within 8 days of arrival on the national territory and send the copy of the receipt from the Post Office together with the Letter of Convocation to the Police Headquarters to the Master Office. For more information, visit the Immigration Portal website and stay up to date on administrative requirements by visiting the YESMILANO website.

The Visa, the Declaration of Value and the copy of the Application for a Residence Permit are mandatory documents for the completion of enrolment.

We remind you that scholarships are assimilated to employment income and are therefore subject to taxation. Foreign citizens who receive a scholarship for a period of more than 183 days, such as for university Masters, will be subject to the same tax regime as for residents in Italy.

Together with the pre-enrolment/enrolment application you will have to fill in the document called "Copy of the Tax Registry Form (MAF)", which can be downloaded from the admission portal.

We would like to point out the existence of platforms for finding accommodation available at the following link.
