A new profile of studies for Sustainability

On 8 February 2022, the issues of sustainable development entered the Italian Constitution, whereby "the protection of the environment, biodiversity and ecosystems, also in the interest of future generations", was added to the fundamental principles of the Italian Republic (art.9), while art. 41 provides that the economic initiative cannot be carried out "in such a way as to cause damage to health and the environment" and that it must also be directed and coordinated "for environmental purposes", in addition to the already envisaged social purposes. This important innovation follows the impetus of the European Green Deal of 2019 and the Sustainable Finance Action Plan of 2018 by the European Union and, before that, the significant impetus given by the Global Reporting Initiative of 1997 with the active involvement of the United Nations.

Today, companies are faced with the concrete prospect of a radical change in the production paradigms of reference and must concretely confront the need to inform sustainability in their strategic approach, including ESG guidelines in their production practices and equipping themselves with all the necessary tools to be able to interact adequately with the end market, with that of their supply chain and with the financial markets, as well as with regulators and standard-setters, in order to maintain a high level of competitiveness.
