What is an Internship

The curricular internship with ECTS is a didactic-professional training experience carried out within an institution with defined and agreed training objectives. The internship therefore represents a very significant key to access the world of work, through which the student can experience the notions learned in the field. In particular, for the Graduate Degree in Educational Counseling for Disabled and Marginal People , the trainee will work alongside the contact person of the chosen institution (defined as the "company tutor") and/or his/her delegated collaborators, to participate in planning, supervision and/or pedagogical coordination activities.

IMPORTANT: Those who did not attend the meeting to present the internship activities and/or did not receive the communication regarding the assignment of the tutor, are asked to promptly report it by email to the Coordinator, Prof. Elena Zanfroni (elena.zanfroni@unicatt.it)

Duration: 200 hours (this is the minimum number of hours; at the discretion of the student and the institution, it is possible to stay inside the structure for more than 200 hours);

Compulsory: for the Graduate degree programme in Educational Counseling for Disabled and Marginal People, the 200-hour internship is mandatory;

N° of ECTS assigned to the internship: 8 (they are registered at the end of the second year);

Method of awarding ECTS: the end of the internship and the relative assignment of ECTS is concomitant with the presentation to the tutor of a report of the activity carried out (to be sent at least 30 days before the scheduled exam) and of the certificate issued by the Institution at the end of the activity.

It is recommended to respect the deadlines and deliver the required documents, under penalty of exclusion from the roll call to which you have registered.

The structure of the final report must be shared with your tutor.

Stages:

  1. individual interview with your tutor;
  2. when the student decides to start the internship (possibly not before the second semester of the first year of the programme) he/she can independently start the search for an institution, then discuss with the university tutor during an interview. On this occasion, the bureaucratic procedure for activating the internship is also illustrated;
  3. the internship starts, according to the established schedule;
  4. about halfway through the programme (around 100 hours), the student is required to fill in a self-assessment questionnaire - which will be sent by their tutor - with respect to the first part of their internship. This questionnaire must be the subject of an intermediate interview shared between the student and the tutor in order to monitor whether the activities carried out are congruent with the aims and objectives of the LM internship;
  5. at the end of the internship, it is necessary to write a report to be sent to your tutor at least 30 days before the exam in which you are enrolled;
  6. recording of the internship in an official session (one per session).

Who should I contact to obtain ECTS?
To obtain the ECTS, you must contact your internship tutor, presenting both the internship report, drawn up according to the instructions that will be provided by the tutor himself, and the certificate of the Institution, which certifies the internship period (start date – end date), the total number of hours actually performed, the role and/or type of activity in which the trainee was engaged; A brief assessment of the route.

Please note that the company tutor must send the certificate certifying the internship to the university tutor by email and issue the original copy to the student. This copy must be delivered by the student to the tutor on the day of the registration of the internship activity.
The report will be discussed in an official session, to which students will register according to the rules of registration for exams.

Is it possible to do an internship abroad?
It is possible to carry out your internship abroad, always in agreement with your university tutor, through the UCSC International Cooperation Mobility & Internationalization Office (for some destinations the office may evaluate the possibility of partial coverage of expenses).

Is there financial support (scholarship or reimbursement of expenses) for the curricular internship?
It is not mandatory, any financial support is at the discretion of the host institution.

Is it possible to change the duration of a curricular internship?
It is possible only by agreement with your university tutor and with the tutor of the Institution.

Is it possible to envisage the possible partial or total recognition of the work activity?
After consultation with the coordinator of the internship activities and/or with the tutor and concomitant with the presentation of a detailed declaration from the employer, on the letterhead of the Institution, in which the activities carried out are described, which must be congruent with the aims and objectives of the internship of the Graduate Degree in Educational Counseling for Disabled and Marginal People.
Please note that the hours spent as an educator cannot be recognized.

Is it possible to have direct contact between university tutor and company tutor?
The university tutor is at the disposal of the company tutor throughout the internship process, both to monitor the quality of the internship and to discuss any clarifications and/or difficulties encountered in the relationship with the student.

Are there any internship hours in the classroom?
The internship activities are only practical and take place in the Institution. The student is required to participate in the presentation meeting of the internship activities that usually takes place in October of each year, after being notified in the Pedagogy lessons of the special educational intervention or on the dedicated web page or, as soon as the enrolment is completed, to contact the Internship Activities Coordinator to schedule a presentation interview.
