LM-87 (Social services and policies)

Coordinator: Elena Cabiati

The new LM-87 programme in Social Work and Management of Welfare Services for Migration, Poverty and Disabilities, delivered in blended mode, prepares social workers, experts in the implementation and evaluation of aid projects and social interventions, as well as managers and coordinators, specialised in the field of Social Work in support and protection of adults in conditions of serious hardship, with particular reference to the issues of migration, poverty and disability.

The graduate programme is interdisciplinary and aims to strengthen the scientific, cultural, methodological and technical-professional skills necessary to work in aid contexts.

The graduate programme, pertaining to the LM-87 class, qualifies for registration in the State Examination for Section A of the Register of Social Workers (specialist level) and is the natural continuation of the LT-39 programme in Sciences for Social Work.

To ensure close contact with the world of professions, the graduate degree programme has set up a Technical Committee with representatives of institutions and organisations active in the field of social and socio-health services.

Learning objectives

The courses and supplementary teaching activities aim to:

  • to promote the understanding of demographic, economic, political, psychological and sociological phenomena useful for recognising the factors and dynamics that generate and fuel problems, hardships and inequalities at the personal, family and community levels;
  • stimulate the acquisition of theoretical and applicative contents aimed at the design, implementation and evaluation of social, social, health and social welfare projects, services and interventions;
  • to promote the adoption of a Relational Social Work approach and methodology, which has been promoted and studied for years at Università Cattolica, which is based on the profound enhancement of the resources and potential of individuals, families and communities in the co-construction of aid paths.

The internship plays a significant role in the degree programme: it facilitates the focus of the thematic area for the dissertation. It consists of an experience in which the student offers his or her collaboration to a Service, an organisation or a community in order to think, organise and implement a participatory intervention project that may focus on the implementation of social work or social research or middle school activities.
The internship is carried out with the support of course professors specifically in charge of tutorship functions, who follow the students both individually and through group meetings.
