Presentation

In recent years, there have been some radical changes in the field of media and communication in general: in particular, increasing globalization, the digitization of almost all traditional media (books and newspapers, cinema, television, radio, music carriers), up to the affirmation of the web, the development of social and streaming platforms, and the spread of smartphones and the latest smartspeakers. These turning points - which are still ongoing and above all accelerated by the pandemic - entail significant cultural, economic, political and social consequences, which affect every area of our daily lives, both in the private and public dimensions. In order to successfully enter this professional field, in addition to a solid theoretical foundation, it is necessary to have practical skills and technical knowledge, aspects to which COMeS devotes particular importance.
The degree programme in Communication and Society (COMeS) is a highly interdisciplinary training programme, aimed at providing students with knowledge both to understand the different psycho-social processes and contexts of interpersonal communication, and to critically analyze the system, logics, and products of the media and creative industries, in the broader context in which they operate. Its educational offer - which includes three macro disciplinary areas, such as media and communication studies, social sciences (i.e. sociology, psychology, political science, law and history) and economic disciplines - is designed to prepare professionals capable of keeping up with the innovation processes introduced by digital media and with the creative processes underlying the production of cultural heritage. A close relationship with the world of professions and businesses also allows the continuous updating of the training offer.
The course also includes a curriculum entirely delivered in English, Communication Management. Fashion, food and material cultures (COMMA), which provides a solid multidisciplinary approach to understanding the processes underlying the creative industries and trains communication professionals with specific expertise in the fashion and food sectors.

To ensure close contact with the world of professions in the field of communication, COMeS has set up a Technical Committee with representatives of companies, associations and professionals.
