What is an internship?
The curricular internship bearing credits (ECTS) is an educational-professional training experience carried out within a work context with defined and agreed training objectives.

Specific details about the Internship
Duration: in order to ensure that the experience is effective from an educational point of view, it is recommended to carry out internships of no less than 75 hours.
Number of ECTS assigned to the internship: 1 ECTS every 25 hours, up to a maximum of 6.
Students can carry out one or more curricular internships; however, they can only obtain to a maximum of 6 ECTS.
NB: Students who have already obtained 289 ECTS cannot request the recognition of additional ECTS following the internship.
The internship can be carried out:
- in a law firm, at a notary practibe, in judicial offices, in private or public companies or even in private or public bodies, both in Italy and abroad, provided that the tasks performed are consistent with the degree programme and aimed at facilitating direct knowledge of the work sector to which the qualification can give access. Consistency with the degree programme is subject to the evaluation of the internship tutor.
Method of awarding the ECTS: the request for the assignment of ECTS can be made up to a month and a half before the graduation session in which the dissertation will be discussed, and as long as the student is regularly enrolled within prescribed terms for programme completion.
No credits will be awarded to internships that are not regularly activated according to the procedure required to compile and approve the training project managed by the Internship & Placement Service. No ECTS will be granted to students enrolled as "outside prescribed terms for programme completion" if the internship is not regularly and promptly included in the study plan.
The request must be sent by email to the internship tutor (dr. Michele Pisati, michele.pisati@unicatt.it) and must be accompanied by a detailed final internship report (describing the activities carried out and the experience gained) and a certificate, drawn up on the letterhead of the host firm or institution, indicating the start and end date of the internship and the total hours of internship carried out by the student, as well as the training project approved at the time of activation of the internship (which can be downloaded from the ST&P portal). For internships carried out at the courts, please complete and have the certificate of attendance signed by the entrusted magistrate.

The procedure must be initiated at least 14 days before the start date of the internship.
Is it possible to obtain the recognition of ECTS following the carrying out of an early internship of professional practice?
Yes: at the end of the internship, it will be sufficient to send to dr. Michele Pisati (michele.pisati@unicatt.it) an original certificate, written on the letterhead of the host firm or institution, certifying the completion of the early internship, and a final report on the activities carried out. Is it possible to start an internship in the summer?
Internships, especially in law firms, cannot be started at the end of July and ended in September; they must be carried out - for at least half of the duration - in non-"holiday" periods.
Is it necessary to include the internship in the study plan?
No, it is not necessary: the internship can be carried out even if not included or it can be deleted even if inserted. The above also applies to the profiles that provide for the other activities in the fourth year. If you wish to replace an optional exam included in the study plan with an internship (in cases where the chosen field allows for it), you must indicate it in the request for the recognition of ECTS. The physical performance of the internship can be undertaken once enrolled in the fourth or fifth year of the profile: this is to allow you to choose (and carry out) the internship with better knowledge of your situation (a few exams from graduation) and to evaluate until the last minute the possibility of carrying out (or not) an internship, given that - as anticipated - it is not necessary to include it in the study plan (since the internship can be carried out even if not included and vice versa).
Is it possible to carry out an internship abroad?
Yes, it is possible to carry out an internship abroad. The administrative management of internships abroad is the responsibility of the International Development Area, wea@unicatt.it, while the Head of Internships (Prof. Matteo Corti) remains the reference for the recognition of ECTS.
Is there a financial recognition (allowance) for the curricular internship?
The participation fee is at the discretion of the host institution (see relevant legislation).
What should you do if problems arise during the internship with the host institution?

Is it possible to interrupt the internship?
Yes, it is possible through the internship to send an interruption request available on the http://step.unicatt.it portal . Since this is a curricular internship with ECTS, in the event of interruption, it is also necessary to promptly notify the university tutor by writing to michele.pisati@unicatt.it.
