The undergraduate programme in Humanities prefigures a cultural and professional profile of high versatility in all sectors where strong argumentative and discursive skills are required, particularly in the field of teaching, publishing, communication, entertainment, historical memory and enhancement of cultural heritage. To this end, it provides students with a solid basic training in the traditionally fundamental sectors of humanistic culture (philological-literary, linguistic, historical, cultural, artistic), suitably combining it with new knowledge in the areas of communication and contemporary expressiveness, in the perspective of a constant dialogue between ancient and modern and a fruitful interaction between different disciplines and methodologies.
Moreover, the educational offer of the undergraduate programme degree in Humanities provides students with a very flexible curriculum, thus giving them the opportunity to build a largely personalized study plan, responding to certain cultural interests and the employment opportunities they pursue. In particular, if the student is especially attracted by ancient civilization and perhaps intends to continue his university education by enrolling in a graduate programme in Classics, also in view of teaching Greek and Latin at the Classical Lyceum (as well as Literary Subjects and Latin in Lyceums, Technical Institutes and Middle School), he/she will be able to include in the plan a whole series of specific courses of the classical area; if, on the other hand, he is keen to deepen his knowledge of the various aspects of modern culture, from the Middle Ages to the present day, with the prospect of enrolling in the graduate programme in Modern Philology, also in order to possibly obtain the qualification to teach literary subjects (and Latin) in other high schools, technical institutes and middle schools, he will have the opportunity to develop a plan with a more marked modern vocation; If, finally, he/she intends to privilege the historical-social dimension, he/she will be able to give adequate space in his/her plan to the teachings of the historical area and, by accessing the graduate programme in Modern Philology (Historical specialization), he/she will acquire the necessary ECTS to obtain the qualification to teach literary subjects (and Latin) in high schools and secondary schools of first and second degree. What's more, the multiplicity of cultural and occupational profiles included in the degree programme in Humanities further makes it possible to outline different disciplinary aggregations, depending on the field of humanistic knowledge and professional skills to which a central educational role is to be assigned. In particular, in the field of modern literature, there is a philological-literary, a historical, a critical-editorial profile and finally an artistic-theatrical profile.
However, it is precisely the singular richness and variety of the educational proposals offered by the degree programme in Literature that can generate in the student, especially at the beginning, a certain sense of disorientation. To help him, therefore, to better orient himself in the wide range of courses provided, conceiving, according to his inclination, an organic, coherent and effective study plan, we provide a series of useful suggestions. This is a first arrangement of the educational offer, thinned out and praised, from time to time, on the basis of the individual cultural profiles that we have imagined and the related professional destinations: starting from this or that model, it will then be much easier for the student to define the study plan, choosing according to his talent from the homogeneous lists of disciplines. Among other things, by following our indications, the validity of which we guarantee, the student will be able to automatically submit his/her study plan, typing it directly electronically, without having to go through the prior scrutiny and approval of the competent Teaching Commission.
