ECTS
To obtain the undergraduate degree, 180 university credits (ECTS) are required, which are acquired to the extent of about 60 each year with evaluation tests both for the courses and for other supplementary forms of teaching. Each exam is awarded a certain number of ECTS, the same for all students, and a grade (expressed in thirtieths) that varies according to the level of preparation. A 6 ECTS course includes an average of about 30 hours of lectures; A course of 12 ECTS includes about 60 ECTS. Courses may be taught according to a semester or annual calendar, as indicated in the timetables on the Faculty Bulletin Board. The final mark is one hundred and tenth.

Through balanced choices within the options allowed by the study plan, it is possible, for students who have an interest in the ancient world in its most varied aspects (linguistic, literary, historical, archaeological, religious), to build a complete and articulated classical profile, which allows to corroborate linguistic skills in Greek and Latin, to lay solid foundations in the literary sectors, historical, archaeological and orient themselves among the numerous disciplines related to the ancient world, starting to identify lines of interest that can be productively deepened later, during the graduate programme. A profile such as the one indicated below, in addition to allowing a general literary training, also for the purpose of a possible subsequent teaching training, adequately prepares for a graduate programme in Classics, allowing the necessary formal and substantive requirements to be achieved.

In the field of modern letters, there are four profiles:

  • Philological – Literary
  • Historical
  • Critic-Editorial
  • Artistic-theatrical

This is the canonical profile of the degree in Literature in the field of modern literature. It focuses on the great works of the national literary civilization, the language of writing and the tradition of the texts. It is the ideal path for those who aspire to school teaching or intend to start research in the humanities. It satisfies all the entry requirements for the Graduate Programme in Modern Philology and already includes almost all the requirements for access to the selection examination for the Annual Initial Training Path and Examination scheduled at the end of the Graduate Programme.

This profile makes it possible to fully exploit, within the framework of a complete philological-literary training, the specific skills and sectors of excellence of historical research, in which Università Cattolica has long distinguished itself in the international field. The profile, in addition to ensuring the acquisition of the fundamentals of the historical method and a solid critical capacity, also provides the skills to carry out tasks related to the enhancement of the historical-cultural heritage. It also adequately prepares students for the Graduate Programme in Modern Philology (in particular the Historical profile) and, at the same time, allows the acquisition of most of the requirements for access to the exam for the annual course of initial training and test provided for at the end of the Graduate Programme.

The critical-editorial profile allows the student to acquire specific expertise in the fields of literary criticism, text editing, book disciplines and book and multimedia publishing, grafting it onto a solid humanistic education. Without excluding other employment opportunities, he foreshadows editorial tasks in the world of printing and publishing houses. This programme satisfies all the requirements for admission to the Graduate Programme in Modern Philology and includes almost all the requirements for access to the selection examination for the Annual Initial Training Course and Examination scheduled at the end of the Graduate Programme.
