The programme coordinator explains its characteristics

The programme in a nutshell

Straight "to the heart of the sciences that study man"

The proposal of Father Gemelli, founder of the University, was that of a psychology understood as a science "in the plural", that is, interested in the study of the functioning of the mind in different contexts and in different phases of life. The approach is multidisciplinary, with a two-year programme focused on basic knowledge (psychology, biology, human sciences) and a third year more linked to the professional fields of reference.

Teaching methodology

In addition to theoretical lectures, experience in the field is already guaranteed during the undergraduate degree programme. In fact, the study programme includes both frontal teaching courses and training activities conducted with experiential-active methodologies and training activities of integration and reflexivity (group activities, methods and techniques, tutoring paths, experiences of Professional Training Activities (AFP) with the value of Practical-Evaluative Internship).

And then? A preparation for valuable psychological support

At the end of the undergraduate degree, students will already be able to access a section of the Register of Psychologists, after passing the State Exam. Section A, on the other hand, can only be accessed after obtaining a graduate degree.

Presentation

Studying Psychology at Università Cattolica means choosing to have a rich and versatile approach to the specific disciplines of this course of study. As Father Gemelli maintained, psychology is "at the heart of the sciences that study man" and this is why a fundamental part of education is given by a solid and broad cultural base. Alongside this, experience in the field already during the undergraduate degree programme is guaranteed by the numerous experiential activities in small groups, which allow the development of research aptitudes and transversal professional skills. In addition, the Faculty, in the light of the Qualifying Degree in Psychology, has carried out a review of all the proposed courses of study with the aim of rereading the wealth of experience gained so far in the perspective of the scientific, cultural and professional scenarios that characterize the development of psychology in the coming years.
