Third Mission

Public health

Università Cattolica has always been involved in clinical and pre-clinical research activities at the Rome campus, where the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery and the Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS Foundation are located. These facilities also developed through specific support structures (such as research laboratories, biobanks and experimental centres), which aim to improve the quality of life of the population in the field of public health.

The University's clinical research is both funded by private companies in order to create a new product to be marketed (e.g. drugs, devices, nutraceutical products, etc.), and it is non-profit, i.e. its main purpose is to contribute to public health, with particular interest in improving the well-being of patients, regardless of the economic result of the product tested.

Observational studies are also of great importance in the field of public health protection (in 2022 there were about 34 registered in the AIFA register,, also aimed at protecting pediatric patients) and all those clinical activities that fall into the category of non-interventional studies and patient empowerment and engagement
