The programme in a nutshell

A scientific basis for the cosmetics and wellness sector

A recent programme for a constantly growing sector: multidisciplinary training to ensure knowledge of the entire production chain, from the sourcing of raw materials to the marketing of the finished product. During the undergraduate programme, students will be taught in different areas (chemistry, biology, pharmacology and principles of dermatology) for a complete technical-scientific training.

Teaching methodology

Frontal theoretical lectures, opportunities for in-depth study and research, experimental activities: several essential components to acquire the basic knowledge and professional skills to operate in the sector.

And then?

Graduates can carry out control and monitoring activities in the various stages of production of cosmetic and health products in different contexts: the cosmetics, chemical-pharmaceutical, food industries, but also in the field of university research (as laboratory technicians).

Workshop, the in-depth meeting of the degree programme

Prof. Alessandro Arcovito, coordinator of the undergraduate degree programme in "Cosmetic Science and Technology", describes the characteristics of the programme and answers students' questions. Watch the video

One of the sectors in which there is the greatest demand is cosmetics, the beauty products industry. It is a sector that, last year, generated more than 10 billion in income, with exports constantly growing. Experts and technicians in this sector are usually trained by attending undegraduate degree programme and doing a lot of laboratory work. Watch the report on RaiPlay

Presentation

The cosmetics and wellness sector is becoming increasingly important. In order to promote its scientifically rigorous and safe development, appropriately trained professionals are needed. The undergraduate degree programme in Cosmetic Science and Technology contributes to this end, allowing students to acquire notions and skills on cosmetic, dietary-nutritional products and the protection of well-being, for the knowledge of the complete production chain, from the sourcing of raw materials to the marketing of the finished product. The main fields of study envisaged during a highly multidisciplinary and innovative university course are: general and applied chemistry and biochemistry, biology, with particular attention to the study of natural compounds of plant origin, passing through pharmacology, toxicology and methods of formulation of cosmetic products. This scientific and technological training is accompanied by the study of the principles of dermatology and pathophysiology of the skin, ending with a basic training in economics and business management and communication psychology.
