What is an internship?

The internship is a training experience within a work context, in which professional content, interpersonal relationships and organizational aspects are combined, compared and integrated. From a content point of view, staying in the company as an intern represents an opportunity for professional and personal growth that allows the student to complete and improve his or her study curriculum, to the extent that the internship is experienced as a moment that is not an alternative but a supplement to the classroom learning process and individual study. Students, being part of a given organizational structure, are made aware of compliance with company rules, practices and conventions and company secrecy. The internship must not, therefore, be a moment of mere knowledge of what an economic organization (companies, enterprises, or other) is, but must allow the student to experience the connection between the knowledge acquired at university and its application within individual organisations with all the adaptations determined by the peculiar characteristics of each organisation. An internship, therefore, can only see close cooperation between business organisations, universities and, of course, the students.

As a rule, the internship appears less useful for students who intend to enrol in a graduate degree, while it can represent an interesting opportunity for those who do not intend to continue their education beyond the undegraduate degree.

The Faculty of Economics provides within the various degree programmes an educational activity chosen by the student, for which 8 credits (ECTS) are assigned. These credits (ECTS) can be used for curricular internships.
