What is an Internship

The curricular internship with ECTS is an important didactic-professional training experience, carried out within a company context, and with defined and agreed training objectives. The internship is therefore a key to access the world of work.

  • undergraduates from July, September, December who have not yet activated the internship
  • who have a substitute laboratory for the "Public Speaking" internship in their study plan, but who are not included in the activity to reach the maximum number of enrolled students

The COMeS degree programme, thanks to an initiative of the Graduate School of Media, Communication and Performing Arts of our University, offers - as substitute activities for internships and the laboratory (3 ECTS) - two MOOCs to choose from:
1.    The world of Podcasting. How to Become a Successful Podcaster
2.    Photoshop for online marketing and communication with tools such as Wordpress

Online registration is required by Thursday 23 April.
Online activity starts on Monday 27 April.

A personal communication has been sent to all interested students with all the didactic and operational details, but for any further doubts or questions please write to the internship tutor (georgia.conte@unicatt.it)

Duration of the internship
The internship must last at least two months, for a total number of hours between 160 and 320.

Compulsory nature of the internship
Internship is compulsory. In the event that the internship is impossible to carry out, the student may replace it with other training activities recognized by the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences (see below points 3, 4 and 5 of the Procedures for assigning ECTS).

N° ECTS assigned to the internship
The internship is awarded 3 university credits (ECTS).

How credits are awarded
The 3 ECTS of the internship can be obtained in the following five ways.

1. Internship proposed by the Faculty
The Faculty, through the Internship & Placement Office, offers internships that entitle you to acquire the 3 ECTS.

The Faculty invites students to consult the ST&P portal (http://step.unicatt.it), which represents the meeting point between job supply and demand, where internship opportunities published by companies and updated in real time are available. Students will be able to select and respond to the most suitable advertisements with respect to their professional profile in line with the specific details presented above. It is therefore important to constantly monitor advertisements and create ad hoc responses in a timely manner, preparing your motivational letter and curriculum vitae appropriately.

The reference tutor of the curriculum can in turn propose internships on the basis of the requests for applications made by the companies that collaborate in various ways with the training activities.

Within one month of the end of the internship, the student is required to hand deliver or send by e-mail to the internship tutor the following documents:

a) written report by the student about the experience

b) evaluation form filled in by the company tutor

2. Internship proposed by the student
The student can propose internships lasting between two and three months (between 160 and 320 hours), which entitle the student to acquire the 3 ECTS. The proposed internship must include tasks related to the educational path undertaken by the student. An initial assessment of the suitability of the tasks is given by the tutor. In case of uncertainty, the tutor will inform the tutoring commission which will issue a final judgment. The internship must take place regularly at the headquarters of the institution or company. It must not be in the employ of parents or a relative.
Within one month before the end of the internship, the student is required to hand deliver or send by e-mail to the internship tutor the following documents:

a) written report by the student about the experience
b) evaluation form filled in by the company tutor

3. Recognition of a work activity
The work activity for which the request for recognition is submitted must have the following characteristics:

  • It must have taken place for at least two months, for a total number of hours between 160 and 320.
  • Must have understood tasks related to the student's educational path.
  • It must have been carried out during the period of university studies.
  • It must not have been subject to previous requests for recognition.
  • It must not have been carried out in the employ of parents or a relative.

The student is required to deliver the following documents to the internship tutor:

a) written report by the student about the experience
b) letter on the company's letterhead (signed by the owner) indicating the duration of the work experience and the tasks performed.

4. Alternative activities to the internship
As an alternative activity to the internship, the student can include passing the exam related to one of the following laboratories:

  • Theatre & Performance
  • Public Speaking
  • Radio    Communication Workshop

5. Expanding a study abroad experience
Those who participate in the Erasmus programme or the Overseas programme, in one of the locations affiliated with the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences, can accrue the 3 ECTS of the internship through the attendance of seminars organized by the foreign host university and aimed at the acquisition of professionalizing skills about some economic, social, political, institutional, communicative aspects of the Region or the State (language courses are excluded). The student is required to inform the tutor in advance of the seminars he/she intends to attend and the relative number of hours, in order to assess the suitability of the same by the Tutoring Commission.

The student is required to deliver to the internship tutor a document on the letterhead of the host university, which shows that he/she has attended the course, seminar or laboratory.

The documents received will be evaluated by the Internship Committee. If the evaluation is positive, the internship tutor will communicate the accreditation of the internship activity to the Faculty Secretariat for the necessary administrative formalities. In order to be able to register and certify the internship, the internship activity or alternative experience (options 1 to 5) must be completed by the student at least one and a half months before the graduation session to which the student intends to attend. Upon submission of the dissertation, students are required to check with UC-Point that the credits of the internship activity have been registered. In case of problems, students must immediately communicate it to the internship tutors, in order to avoid the postponement of the thesis.

Before starting the internship, the student must explain to the internship tutor the timing, methods, contents and tasks of the internship. Once you have received confirmation from the Tutor, you will be able to start the activation procedure by requesting the company to fill in the training project on the http://step.unicatt.it portal .

CURRICULAR INTERNSHIP ACTIVATION PROCEDURE

Is it possible to do a part-time internship?
Yes, it is possible by making arrangements with the host company and calculating the number of hours needed to reach the 160 hours.

Is it possible to replace the internship with a foreign language course?
No, foreign language courses are not considered as elective educational activities.

Is it possible to carry out the internship abroad?
Yes, you can. In order to carry out the internship abroad, the student must take the initiative with respect to the inclusion of the Trilateral Agreement/training project for the activation of the internship within the step.unicatt.it portal. The company and the tutor (for curricular internships) will have to approve and sign the Trilateral Agreement, operating directly on the portal, following the formal steps indicated.

The participation allowance is at the discretion of the host institution.

What to do if problems arise during the internship with the host institution?
