Internships

The internship – an integral part of the degree programme – aims at the acquisition and development of specific professional skills, through the direct and reflective participation of the student in concrete educational and training work situations. The internship course provided for students of the degree programme consists of a part of hours to be carried out at university (indirect internship) and a total of hours to be carried out in one or more external bodies (direct internship).

During the second year of the programme, each student is assigned a tutor who will accompany him/her in the internship, both indirect (which takes place in a group) and direct. The regulations in force since the academic year 2020/2021 provide for the possibility of starting the direct internship already during the second year of the programme, and the choice between three options:

  • OPTION 1 "double direct traineeship" - 150 hours of traineeship in childcare services (0-3 years) and 150 hours of traineeship in personal services or training settings. The student acquires 14 ECTS (10 curricular and 4 supernumerary); acquires the necessary ECTS to be able to work in childcare services (0-3 years); They will be able to work in childcare services (0-3 years), in personal services and in training contexts.
  • OPTION 2 "Direct Childhood Internship" - 200 hours of internship in early childhood services. The student acquires 10 curricular ECTS; acquires the necessary ECTS to be able to work in childcare services (0-3 years); They will be able to work in early childhood services (0-3 years), in personal services and in training contexts.
  • OPTION 3 "direct internship in educational and training services aimed at the person" - 200 hours of internship in personal services or in training contexts. The student acquires 10 curricular ECTS; does not acquire the necessary ECTS to be able to work in childcare services (0-3 years); They will be able to work in personal services and training settings but not in early childhood services.

The choice between the three options is made at the same time as the submission of the study plan at the beginning of the second year of the programme.

Indirect internship activities take place according to a pre-established calendar that involves Fridays and/or Saturdays. Attendance at all direct and indirect activities is mandatory.

Specific details about the Internship

The internship is to be considered as a unitary and progressive path, which develops in the second and third year of the programme.

The internship requires compulsory attendance and can be "approved" if the student:

  • attended the scheduled hours;
  • has obtained a positive evaluation from the University's internship tutor;
  • delivered and positively discussed the final internship report.

  • What is the difference between curricular internship with ECTS, curricular internship with zero ECTS and extracurricular internship? The curricular internship with ECTS is carried out by students, is compulsory and is part of the Study Plan of the Degree Programme. The curricular internship with zero ECTS is carried out by students, is not part of the Study Plan and does not issue ECTS. The extracurricular internship is aimed at graduates.
  • Who should I contact to obtain ECTS accreditation? The achievement of ECTS is automatically awarded at the end of  the entire internship programme, after registration during the internship exam. (Dr. Noemi Michilini)
  • Is it possible to do an internship abroad? Yes, on the basis of the assessment shared with your university tutor and according to the defined procedures.
  • Is there financial support/reimbursement of expenses for the curricular internship? No.
  • Is it always possible to interrupt the internship? It is always possible to agree with your tutor to interrupt the internship, according to the criteria set out in the internship project.
  • Is it possible to replace it with an elective exam? No.
  • Is it possible to change the duration of a curricular internship? Yes, in compliance with the established number of hours and always in agreement with the university tutor.
  • Is it possible to carry out an operational internship concentrated in a short period of time? No, except in exceptional situations to be assessed collectively by the tutors.
  • Is it possible to credit the internship? Not the one carried out in classroom meetings. Yes, for the operational internship, but only for students who already work in socio-educational and training institutions, with tasks and functions pertinent to the degree course.
  • Is it possible to carry out the operational internship in different services? Yes, but only if they belong to the same legal entity and have prior agreements with the university tutor and the supervisor of the institution.
  • Is it possible to replace the operational internship with the civil voluntary service? Yes.
